Re-visiting The Crazies!

When I went to see this 2010 film in the theater I enjoyed the film. It recently came across my path again on Amazon Prime videos and I decided to give it a watch. I didn't remember much from the first time but it doesn't seem to suffer much from being viewed on a smaller screen this time.

Set in a small, peaceful town, the first thing that struck me was how the plot was starting out a little too close to home for 2020. Citizens, infected by an unknown toxin, attack and infest their neighbors. Even more nightmarish (and an amped up version of what we sometimes are facing now) was the government response to this crisis. Haz-mat garbed military personnel rounded up the townspeople, giving them temperature checks and sectioning off any that were possibly sick.

I won't go too much into the plot, but suffice it to say, it felt eerie to be watching it from my current quarantine situation.

The crux of the story is the four people who manage to make it out and what happens from there.

I did really enjoy re-watching the movie and was happy that it held up to my fond memories from a decade ago. It wasn't exactly an escape from the COVID-19 threat looming over us, or even a distraction since there were some familiar elements. But I will say that it was an enjoyable film regardless, and good for the throwback nostalgia.
