Hereditary is ... GREAT!

I am really late to the party (it's been a busy couple of years), but I was finally able to sit down and give Hereditary the attention it deserves. I'd heard a lot about it, often together with Midsommar (which I also loved) but never had the chance to check it out. I did and I am glad I did.

This is far from a straightforward story, as the audience is left mainly in the dark about what is going on and discovers things as the family does. It uses a lot of plot points and elements that seem to be recycled from other movies, but fortunately for me, they are movies I enjoy. I was reminded at times of Rosemary's Baby, The Conjuring movies or other modern paranormal movies, as well as The Last Exorcism.

Most of the story and occurrences weren't shocking, but some of the scenes were interesting and macabre enough to hold my attention. I'm fairly easy to please as far as horror movies go, because I enjoy many of the common elements of horror movies, but I found this film engaging and paced well.

Beyond that, a few of the scenes were a bit startling and different, which made the movie stand apart from other similar horror movies. In general I'm not sure it is worth all the notoriety it received, however I do think it was well made, well acted and quite an enjoyable watch.

So, what are your thoughts? Love it or hate it, let's hear it!
